Yay! I know I’ll regret it later if I don’t post my list online because I always need to access booklists in weird places.

*
My excuse for falling short, especially at the end of the year, is that I started devoting a lot of time to thoughtfully reading submissions and writing ed memos to various authors (and aspiring authors) even though I had not acquired their books (yet). Something I never have time to do but which makes me feel pretty good.
You might have noticed there was only one non-fiction book on this list. I’ve decided to change that for 2013. My tentative goal is to read 20 nonfiction books this year. Right now I’m working on A PEOPLE’S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.

No one who’s been following you for a while would ever accuse you of reading too little. (I know you’ve got your own standards for such things, however.)
So happy to see some of those entries in particular. (Loved STIFF, actually anything by Mary Roach.) In general, it seems that your 2012 list was a sort of step-back-and-survey-the-landscape one for you — surveying the history of certain (professionally important?) genres through your built-in literary lens.
I loved The Big Sleep, but I loved the movie more. Lauren Bacall is a sassy boss in that movie.
I also read Tinker Tailor this year! I really liked it 🙂
i think that is AMAZING reading for an editor as busy as you are! and all those that receive your thoughtful and insightful edits are all very lucky and i’m sure, grateful! =)
